No Limits Podcast with Wade Hinton

For a long time, I bought into the notion that communications skills were soft and could be a barrier to me moving into management. I treated communications as a deficiency that had to be overcome if I wanted to achieve my goal.

I took steps to fill what I saw as the gaps in my capabilities to prove that I could do management kind of things like budgeting, planning, organizing, directing.

Managers do use those skills, but my epiphany came when I became a manager and learned what good leaders really need to do.

Cast a vision.

Articulate a path through trouble.

Inspire around “the why” not just “the how.”

Build cultures that allow organizations to excel.

In other words, the best leaders know how to communicate.

My career surged ahead when I embraced my strengths as a communicator.
